Cast your mind back to last year when Joe Duffy and ‘Liveline ‘ promoted the idea that exceptionally good value be given for five euro on a particular day. “Fiver Friday” was born, and Joe was the toast of the country, someone must have tipped him off about Ashbourne Céilí Club and its great value for money. Okay, admittedly, we do not call it “Fiver Friday”, but we have been running our “Fiver Tuesday “every week for years! Yes folk, for a mere five euro in Scoil na Cilli every Tuesday night you get an hour and a half (8.30 to 10pm) of the best exercise you can get, the best of good company and lots of craic. And, your first night, we won’t charge you at all - instead of “Fiver Tuesday” in will be “Free Tuesday”. Now Joe Duffy, put that in your pipe and smoke it!
Our three most important Céilis in March were all in Co. Monaghan. The first was in Clontibret, where Eoin Roe O’Neill had a great victory in the last 1500s – I’m sure they had a “Mother of All” Ceili to celebrate that! A week later we were in Latton, and had another good night out. A céilí on St. Patrick’s night was a must - so we headed for Carrickmacross. Apart from all the dancing, the Ashbourne Céilí Club is a great social asset. To travel, we either pile into cars, or with the support of other clubs, hire a bus. Wherever we go, a warm reception awaits. Conscious of the need for a good social aspect of the club, we organise other outings addition to Céilis. For example, already this year have had a night out at the Greyhound Racing Track, and went to see the show “Dirty Dancing” in the city. Before you ask, no there isn’t any “Dirty Dancing”. So don’t just sit there at home looking at the four walls – joining us will be the best decision you will make this year.
